Dematic launches low cost automatic storage and retrieval system
for Asian markets
Dematic has introduced a new standardized Automatic Storage and Retrieval
System (ASRS) which allows manufacturers and distributors to improve their
storage and material handling operations, efficiency and reliability levels, and
achieve higher safety standards at a lower cost.
Made in Asia for the Asian market, the Dematic Storage Cube is a solution which
includes storage and retrieval machines, racks, in-feed and out-feed conveyors, as well
as location control software. It is particularly suitable for mid-sized companies whose
primary business is in handling unit loads.
Poul Lorentzen, Dematic Singapore, who heads the unit’s center of
competence for East Asia, said: “More parts of Asia are enjoying phenomenal growth in
the manufacturing sector. Our latest offering is developed to provide an alternative to
traditional narrow aisle forklift truck solutions, at a competitive price to help Asian
manufacturers tackle issues of rising land and labor costs. In some cases, this enables
companies to increase their storage capacity by up to 300 per cent.”
The Dematic Storage Cube can be applied to new distribution centers or installed in
existing facilities to improve space efficiency. It can also be used as a buffer store for work-in-process and raw material storage, and will facilitate improvements for
manufacturers who require just-in-time delivery performance.

challenge. We can show that the Dematic Storage Cube is able to yield the lowest life
cycle cost, compared with high-end truck systems. Significant cost savings are possible
through the need for less land, a smaller building footprint and less manpower. In high

Designed to require only minimum maintenance, higher productivity and efficiency is
achieved with 24/7 operations. The protection by safety fences ensures compliance with
stringent operation health and safety (OH&S) standards and by being electrical
powered, a clean and fume-free environment is guaranteed. In addition, the Dematic
Storage Cube can be installed and delivered within a comparable lead time to high-end
truck systems.
